Challenge

  • Banpro needed mobile branches to establish a presence across all regions of the country.
  • These mobile branches divided their data traffic into three main areas: applications, new services, and security.
  • As a result, each mobile branch required three different routers to manage these areas.
  • This approach was inefficient and costly to maintain.

Solution

  • H2-Automotive+: A cellular device that delivers the advanced capabilities of Teldat’s fixed branch solutions.
  • H2-Automotive+: A ruggedized onboard device powered directly by the mobile unit, which is a truck.
  • It simplifies operations by using a single device with the ability to handle four SIM cards, enabling efficient traffic differentiation.
  • Offers SD-WAN management, allowing mobile units to function as if they were fixed branches, while also safeguarding the banking applications in use.

Results

  • Banpro received a solution that was precisely tailored to its needs.
  • The implementation of SD-WAN allowed effective traffic management across the mobile banking units.
  • The deployment of equipment was executed swiftly and efficiently, largely thanks to Teldat’s clear procedures and the competence of their technicians.

Why Teldat?

Teldat’s H2-automotive+ devices were specifically designed to be installed in vehicles like Banpro’s mobile branch units. Among other features, they can be powered by the vehicle’s engine and are optimized for onboard use, with extended temperature range hardware. They offer the functionality of traditional fixed-branch routers while being tailored for mobile applications.

Additionally, Banpro recognized that, at the time of deployment, they were only using a fraction of the H2-Automotive+’s capabilities. Other valuable features, such as geolocation and captive portal Wi-Fi services, were available for future use.

Challenge Banpro by Teldat

Challenge

To expand its banking services across Nicaragua, Banpro needed mobile branches to reach areas that lacked traditional bank locations. However, establishing these mobile branches posed significant technical challenges.

As a key requirement, the solution had to be able to manage different types of data traffic, including, firstly, business applications such as electronic banking, balance inquiries, and various other services. Secondly, the system had to support new services offered by Banpro to its customers. This included personalized insurance options, as well as financial services like loans and mortgages, along with innovative offerings such as high-security special savings accounts.

Thirdly, security management was also critical, covering alarm systems—both automated alerts and panic button signals—and security camera footage.

The video footage from surveillance cameras demanded separate management through networks capable of providing the necessary bandwidth to transmit this type of data effectively.

At that time, each mobile branch relied on three separate routers—one for business applications, one for new services, and another for security. This setup was not only costly but also made the system more vulnerable to cyber risks due to the numerous access points.

Teldat’s solution addressed these challenges by offering a single, unified router capable of managing all the different traffic streams efficiently.

Solution

Teldat’s H2-Automotive+ provided Banpro with the perfect solution for several reasons.

Firstly, the H2-Automotive+ is a cellular device that offers all the advanced features found in Teldat’s fixed branch equipment worldwide. Additionally, it meets the requirements of onboard devices, which is crucial since Banpro’s mobile units are trucks. The Teldat H2-Automotive+ is ruggedized and designed to be powered directly by the mobile unit. It can withstand vibrations, extreme temperatures, and humidity.

Furthermore, Teldat offers a single router solution for each Banpro mobile unit, as each device can accommodate four individual SIM cards, allowing for network traffic differentiation.

One SIM for banking application traffic, another for new services, and a third for security management.

The H2-Automotive+ devices support SD-WAN management, just like a fixed branch router. This feature is essential for Banpro. Moreover, Teldat’s solution can protect and secure each of the bank’s applications, reducing cybersecurity risks.

With the H2-Automotive+, Banpro’s mobile units comply with all the bank’s communication network security requirements, including IPSEC, password control, traffic management, network traffic granularity, content filtering, and attack prevention.

Results

As expected, the project yielded highly positive results, providing Banpro with a solution that perfectly suited their needs.  However, key achievements include:

  • Offering the bank an SD-WAN solution that allows full traffic management control for mobile banking units as if they were fixed branches.
  • Rapid and effective deployment and installation of the equipment. Banpro carried out the installation with minimal intervention from Teldat’s Sales Engineering team, largely due to the clear procedures and instructions from Teldat’s technicians.
